I will present a brief overview of the work of the UK ATC and then go on to describe the difficulties of producing our most challenging instrument to date: SCUBA-2, which is by far the most powerful submillimetre camera ever to be produced, using an entirely new technology of arrays - the world's first 'submillimetre CCD'.
