  • Results From SEPPCoN, a Survey to Study the Physical Properties of the Nuclei and Dust of Jupiter-Family Comets
We present results from SEPPCoN, our Survey of Ensemble Physical Properties of Cometary Nuclei. This survey involves studying 100 Jupiter-family comets (JFCs) -- about 30% of the known population -- at both mid-infrared and visible wavelengths. We have used the Spitzer Space Telescope to study the comets' thermal emission, and many ground-based

  • Resonant absorption in multi-stranded coronal loops
We study the excitation and damping of transverse oscillations in a complex multi-stranded model of a coronal loop. By numerically solving the time-dependent magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations in two dimensions, we show how the global motion of the whole bundle of tubes, produced by an external disturbance, is converted into localised motions due

  • Reflecting on Čerenkov reflections
MAGIC, as well as HESS and VERITAS, is a Čerenkov Telescope unveiling γ-ray sources above 60 GeV at vertical within noisy (hadronic) airshowering sky. These telescopes while facing the horizons may reveal rarest blazing UHECR as well as far fluorescence tails of downward PeV-EeV hadronic airshowers. Few of these inclined airshowers blazing on axis

  • Properties of dusty tori in active galactic nuclei - I. The case of SWIRE/SDSS quasars
We derive the properties of dusty tori in active galactic nuclei from the comparison of observed spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of SDSS quasars and a precomputed grid of torus models. The observed SEDs comprise SDSS photometry, Two-Micron All-Sky Survey J, H and K data, whenever available, and mid-infrared (mid-IR) data from the Spitzer Wide

  • Polarimetric Signatures of Infrared Jets in X-ray Binaries
We present near-infrared linear spectropolarimetry of a sample of persistent X-ray binaries: Sco X-1, Cyg X-2 and GRS 1915+105. For Sco X-1 and Cyg X-2, the polarization levels at 2.4 μm are 1.3+/-0.10 % and 5.4+/-0.7 %, respectively, which is greater than the polarization level at 1.65 μm. This cannot be explained by interstellar polarization or

  • Photometric redshifts in the SWIRE Survey
We present the SWIRE Photometric Redshift Catalogue 1025119 redshifts of unprecedented reliability and of accuracy comparable with or better than previous work. Our methodology is based on fixed galaxy and quasi-stellar object templates applied to data at 0.36-4.5 μm, and on a set of four infrared emission templates fitted to infrared excess data
