  • Orbital periods of cataclysmic variables identified by the SDSS - III. Time-series photometry obtained during the 2004/5 International Time Project on La Palma
We present time-resolved CCD photometry of 15 cataclysmic variables (CVs) identified by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The data were obtained as part of the 2004/2005 International Time Programme on La Palma. We discuss the morphology of the light curves and the CV subtypes, and give accurate orbital periods for 11 systems. Nine systems are

  • Observational properties of accretion discs: Precessing and warped?
Over the last 40 years, X-ray astronomy missions have revealed long-term, superorbital periods in a variety of X-ray binaries. These modulations can provide significant constraints on the physical properties of accretion discs. Some of these modulations are Her X-1-like and are interpreted as irradiation-driven, tilted, precessing accretion discs

  • Multifrequency spectral analysis of extragalactic radio sources in the 33-GHz VSA catalogue: sources with flattening and upturn spectrum
We present an analysis of the spectral properties of the extragalactic radio sources in the nearly complete Very Small Array (VSA) sample at 33GHz. Data from different surveys are used to study source spectra between 1.4 and 33GHz. We find that, in general, spectra cannot be well described by a single power law in the range of frequencies

  • Monitoring LMXBs with the Faulkes Telescopes
We have been undertaking a monitoring project of 13 low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) using FT North since early 2006. The introduction of FT South has allowed us to extend this monitoring to include 15 southern hemisphere LMXBs (see Figure 1). With new instrumentation, we also intend to expand this monitoring to include both infrared wavelengths and
