  • When Is a Bulge Not a Bulge? Inner Disks Masquerading as Bulges in NGC 2787 and NGC 3945
We present a detailed morphological, photometric, and kinematic analysis of two barred S0 galaxies with large, luminous inner disks inside their bars. We show that these structures, in addition to being geometrically disklike, have exponential profiles (scale lengths ~300-500 pc) distinct from the central, nonexponential bulges. We also find them

  • UBRI photometry of globular clusters in the Leo group galaxy NGC 3379
We present wide-area UBRI photometry for globular clusters around the Leo group galaxy NGC 3379. Globular cluster candidates are selected from their B-band magnitudes and their (U-B)o versus (B-I)o colours. A colour-colour selection region was defined from photometry of the Milky Way and M31 globular cluster systems. We detect 133 globular cluster

  • Three dimensional structure of a regular sunspot from the inversion of IR Stokes profiles
The magnetic, thermal and velocity structure of a regular sunspot, observed close to solar disk center is presented. Spectropolarimetric data obtained with the Tenerife Infrared Polarimeter (TIP) in two infrared FeI lines at 15 648.5 Å and 15 652.8 Å are inverted employing a technique based on response functions to retrieve the atmospheric

  • The Physical Parameters, Excitation, and Chemistry of the Rim, Jets, and Knots of the Planetary Nebula NGC 7009
We present long-slit optical spectra along the major axis of the planetary nebula NGC 7009. These data allow us to discuss the physical, excitation, and chemical properties of all the morphological components of the nebula, including its remarkable systems of knots and jets. The main results of this analysis are the following: (1) the electron
