  • A probability distribution for the amplitude of Solar Cycle 25
We suggest a method to calculate the probability for the maximum amplitude of Solar Cycle 25 using Bayesian inference. We illustrate this approach with the predictions made by one particular phenomenological model that relates the time interval between termination events of preceding cycles with the amplitude of the next cycle. Our results show

  • A possible signature of the influence of tidal perturbations in dwarf galaxy scaling relations
Dwarf galaxies are excellent cosmological probes, because their shallow potential wells make them very sensitive to the key processes that drive galaxy evolution, including baryonic feedback, tidal interactions, and ram pressure stripping. However, some of the key parameters of dwarf galaxies, which help trace the effects of these processes, are

  • A new dynamical modeling of the WASP-47 system with CHEOPS observations
Among the hundreds of known hot Jupiters (HJs), only five have been found to have companions on short-period orbits. Within this rare class of multiple planetary systems, the architecture of WASP-47 is unique, hosting an HJ (planet-b) with both an inner and an outer sub-Neptunian mass companion (-e and -d, respectively) as well as an additional non

  • WEAVE-StePS: A stellar population survey using WEAVE at WHT
Context. The upcoming new generation of optical spectrographs on four-meter-class telescopes will provide valuable opportunities for forthcoming galaxy surveys through their huge multiplexing capabilities, excellent spectral resolution, and unprecedented wavelength coverage. Aims: WEAVE is a new wide-field spectroscopic facility mounted on the 4.2

  • Wave Conversion, Decay, and Heating in a Partially Ionized Two-fluid Magneto-atmosphere
A ray-theoretic phase-space description of linear waves in a two-fluid (charges and neutrals) magnetized plasma is used to calculate analytic decay rates and mode transmission and conversion coefficients between fast and slow waves in two dimensions due to finite ion-neutral collision frequencies at an arbitrary ionization fraction. This is

  • Unravelling the mass spectrum of destroyed dwarf galaxies with the metallicity distribution function
Accreted stellar populations are comprised of the remnants of destroyed galaxies, and often dominate the 'stellar haloes' of galaxies such as the Milky Way (MW). This ensemble of external contributors is a key indicator of the past assembly history of a galaxy. We introduce a novel statistical method that uses the unbinned metallicity distribution
