  • An empirical approach to the location of the theoretical isochrones in the observational plane
A new empirical calibration of the (B-V) index versus the three fundamental stellar parameters T(eff), (Fe/H), and log g is presented whose range of validity is adequate to analyze the main sequence and turnoff regions of most of the stellar cluster systems. Significant systematic differences are found between this new calibration and previous ones

  • An Extremly Oxygen-Poor Planetary Nebula In The Galactic Halo
We report results of a spectrophotometric study of SBS 1150+599A, and discus s the nature of this object basing on our data. Our study shows that SBS 1150+599A is most probably a planetary nebula located in the Galactic halo and not a cataclysmic variable as originally proposed by the authors of the Second Byurakan Survey from low resolution

  • An Implicit Integral Method to Solve Selected Radiative Transfer Problems. IV. The Case of Spherical Geometry
In the previous papers of this series, we introduced the implicit integral method (IIM) to solve those radiative transfer (RT) problems in which the source function depends on an integral of the specific intensity of the radiation field over directions and frequencies. The IIM rests upon a forward-elimination, back-substitution scheme naturally

  • An in-depth study of HD 174966 with CoRoT photometry and HARPS spectroscopy. Large separation as a new observable for δ Scuti stars
Aims: The aim of this work was to use a multi-approach technique to derive the most accurate values possible of the physical parameters of the δ Sct star HD 174966, which was observed with the CoRoT satellite. In addition, we searched for a periodic pattern in the frequency spectra with the goal of using it to determine the mean density of the star

  • An Interacting Binary System Powers Precessing Outflows of an Evolved Star
Stars are generally spherical, yet their gaseous envelopes often appear nonspherical when ejected near the end of their lives. This quirk is most notable during the planetary nebula phase, when these envelopes become ionized. Interactions among stars in a binary system are suspected to cause the asymmetry. In particular, a precessing accretion disk

  • An L0 dwarf companion in the brown dwarf desert, at 30 AU
We present the discovery of an L0 companion to the nearby M1.5 dwarf G 239-25, at a projected distance of 31 AU. It is the faintest companion discovered so far in our adaptive optics survey of all known M dwarfs within 12 pc, and it lies at the stellar/substellar limit. Given the assumed age of the primary star, the companion is likely an extremely
