  • Hard X-ray-to-radio energy distributions in starburst galaxies
We present in this contribution the predictions on the multiwavelength spectral energy distribution of our evolutionary population synthesis models including single and binary stellar systems. The high energy computations include the emission associated to X-ray binaries and supernovae remnants, as well as the mechanical energy released into the

  • Evolutionary population synthesis: the effect of binary systems
We present in this contribution our set of multiwavelength synthesis models including the evolution of single and binary stars. The main results we have obtained can be summarized as follows: (a) massive close-binary systems will start to experience mass transfer episodes after the first 4 Myr of the starburst evolution; (b) as a result of these

  • URCA Process in Neutron Stars with Superstrong Magnetic Fields
We calculate the emissivity for the direct URCA process in strongly magnetized, degenerate matter in neutron stars, under beta -equilibrium. We show that, if the magnetic field is large enough for protons and electrons to be confined to their ground Landau levels, the field-free threshold condition on proton concentration no longer holds, and

  • The variable sources responsible for the photometric behaviour of OJ 287 in the IR-optical-UV region during 1993-1996
An analysis is performed of multicolour observations of OJ 287 carried out during the OJ-94 Project. It is found that in the optical region the variable sources have the same power-law spectrum (F_nu ~ nu (-1.5) ) irrespective of flux level. In the IR the spectrum flattens during the flare possibly because of synchrotron self-absorption. The

  • The Star Formation History of Nearby Dwarf Galaxies: problems, methods and results
The synthetic color-magnitude diagram (CMD) methodology to study the star formation history (SFH) of nearby galaxies is briefly reviewed. Firstly the most significant features of the CMD for this task are discussed. Then, the procedure of computing synthetic CMDs is explained and the main results obtained by our group in the last few years
