  • The emission-line knot in the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 5347
We report on narrow-band Hα imaging and long-slit spectroscopy at intermediate resolution from [NeV] lambda3425A to [SIII] lambda9532A at PA=25.˚5 through the nucleus of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 5347. The nucleus shows very-high-excitation lines, such as [NeV], HeII, [FeVII] and [FeX]. At 3 arcsec to the north-east there is a high-excitation

  • Star formation in the Large Magellanic Cloud. III. A study of the regions LMC-30, LMC-45 and LMC-61.
In this paper we present the BV-CCD photometry of three stellar fields of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). They are taken at the center of V-charts of the Hodge & Wright (1967) catalog after which they are named. The fields under examination are LMC-30 (2degNorth-West of the Bar), LMC-45 ( 2degNorth of the Bar) and LMC-61 ( 3degNorth-East of the

  • Spectroscopy of possible Hα emission stars in regions of high galactic latitude molecular clouds.
We present mid-resolution spectroscopic observations of 63 faint (V=12-16) stars identified by Kun (1992) as Hα emission candidates in an objective prism survey of several high galactic latitude molecular clouds. Only 4 stars in our sample (6%) are bona fide T Tauri stars on the basis of their strong Li I absorption and Hα emission features. They

  • Spatial changes of the oscillatory pattern in sunspot penumbrae at the photospheric level.
We analyze time sequences of photospheric spectral lines in the penumbra of two sunspots. Two spectral lines sensitive to velocity fluctuations at two different heights in the atmosphere (Ti I 8396.9A and Fe II 7224.5A) are used. The observations were taken using the Gregory-Coude Telescope (GCT) at the Observatorio del Teide (Tenerife). Velocity

  • Site Testing at the Mexican National Astronomical Observatory in San Pedro Martir
Measurements on the local seeing have been carried out during two and a half yea rs (March 29, 1992 to October 7, 1994), over a total of 378 nights. The Site Tes ting Telescope (STT) from the Steward Observatory yields a median seeing of 0.61 arcsec and a first quartile of 0.50 arcsec. Additional measurements with the Carnegie Monitor (CM), many of

  • Optical observations of Dwingeloo 1, a nearby barred spiral galaxy behind the Milky Way
We present new optical observations of the nearby barred spiral galaxy Dwingeloo 1 (Dw1) obtained with the Isaac Newton, William Herschel and Wise telescopes. Dw1 lies at Galactic coordinates (l=138.˚52, b=-0.˚11) and it is heavily obscured by dust and gas in the Milky Way. We infer that Dw1 is of morphological type SBb or SBc (T=4), has an
