  • Solar Site Survey for the Advanced Technology Solar Telescope. I. Analysis of the Seeing Data
The site survey for the Advanced Technology Solar Telescope concluded recently after more than 2 years of data gathering and analysis. Six locations, including lake, island, and continental sites, were thoroughly probed for image quality and sky brightness. The present paper describes the analysis methodology employed to determine the height

  • SOPHIE velocimetry of Kepler transit candidates. XII. KOI-1257 b: a highly eccentric three-month period transiting exoplanet
In this paper we report a new transiting warm giant planet: KOI-1257 b. It was first detected in photometry as a planet-candidate by the Kepler space telescope and then validated thanks to a radial velocity follow-up with the SOPHIE spectrograph. It orbits its host star with a period of 86.647661 d ± 3 s and a high eccentricity of 0.772 ± 0.045

  • Southern red high proper motion objects (Lodieu+, 2005)
Table main gives the names, coordinates (J2000), epoch, proper motions, and optical (BjRI) and near-infrared (JHKs) magnitudes for new, red proper motion objects published in this paper. Table obslog1 provides the observing logs for a subset of proper motion objects observed photometrically with FORS1 and ISAAC on the VLT. It includes observing

  • Space experiment TUS on board the Lomonosov satellite as pathfinder of JEM-EUSO
Space-based detectors for the study of extreme energy cosmic rays (EECR) are being prepared as a promising new method for detecting highest energy cosmic rays. A pioneering space device - the "tracking ultraviolet set-up" (TUS) - is in the last stage of its construction and testing. The TUS detector will collect preliminary data on EECR in the

  • Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph Ultraviolet Spectroscopy of Early B Supergiants in M31
We analyze Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) spectra in the 1150-1700 Å wavelength range obtained for six early B supergiants in the neighboring galaxy M31. Because of their likely high (nearly solar) abundance, these stars were originally chosen to be directly comparable to their Galactic counterparts and represent a much needed addition

  • Spanish Astronomy
Astrophysics is a very recent development in Spain, but its spectacular evolution in itself constitutes a singular phenomenon that has aroused the interest of sociologists and historians of science alike....
